writes:Please help! My period is over a week late and I'm starting to think I maybe pregnant. This is very unlike me, I am usually quite regular and, if anything, I come on early. I thought I would come on as normal last week, as I was moody, bloated and had sore boobs. However, these symptoms have continued over the week and are still there but there's no sign of my period. I've had no stomach cramps or headaches, which I usually get, either.The only thing is, me and my boyfriend are really careful and always use a condom. As far as I know, none of them split or anything so am I worrying about nothing? I know condoms aren't 100%, no contraception is, but surely if nothing went wrong, I can't be pregnant, can I? Please help!

reader, anonymous, writes (20 July 2006): Hi I aint a expert but I went through wat u going through the second time I had sex I was ment to start my period the next week and i didnt I was highly worried even though I used a condom, I didnt know wat to do wit myself i had sleepless nights eventually 6 days later I started my period and was realived but it made me realize that next time I have sex, I should jus be more careful jus to stay on the safe side. So who knows maybe u jus going through wat i went through but go get a home pregnancy test jus to be sure.keep well and hope all goes wellxXx

It is possible that you are pregnant. But I think it is more like that you just skipped your period due to stress or some other factor, which does happen quite often. I would suggest you buy a pregnancy test from the store, and if it comes out positive, get tested by a doctor.

 Yes, girl, you can be pregnant. No method of contraception is fail-safe all the time. Get tested. You will have more options if you confirm a pregnancy (or not) early.
It's easy to freeze up at times like this, and to wish things were different, but remind yourself that you can only deal with this when you have a definite Yes or No answer, then go to your doctor, or go to the chemist and get a pregnancy test.
