I'm having paranoia problems, worried that my boyfriend won't get home safely!

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *bonyBlossom writes:

Me and my boyfriend couldn't be happier with our relationship at the moment. The chemistry is amazing. We see each other nearly every day and he often stays over and we are really in love.

But when he doesn't stay over, he stays in the city until gone 11 most days and doesn't get home until gone midnight. The town he lives in isn't the roughest place in the world but it's no bed of roses and he walks to his house from the train station or bus stop on his own. He is 20 but he's really short for his age and I'm always paranoid that he'll get attacked or something. There have been a few muggings in his town and the other week there was a rape just around the corner from where he used to work. I always get him to text me when he gets home and on the rare occassion he doesn't I call or text him but I get so paranoid something bad will happen! He's been doing this every day for months now and nothing has happened yet but I still go into panic mode every time. Is it just stupid paranoia? Or do I have reason to be worried?

A female reader, Her. United Kingdom +, writes (25 July 2009):

I don't think you should be that worried.

Yes it may be dangerous, but i'm sure if he's been going there for a while he'll know what he's doing.

Try not to worry, he'll know that place like the back of his hand. ;)

If you keep worrying, he'll start to get annoyed with you.

Just relax, he'll be fine. :)

Hope this helps.
