i have been seeing a fella now for six months though we do know each other many years. we are both separated and going through transitions but he now holds my heart, at the weekend he told me he loves me but not in love with me and i am ill over it. i finished with him yesterday as i was so hurt but my heart is ripped to pieces. i am a mature woman but i cant stop crying how on earth am i going to get rid of this pain?

A female reader, cd206 United Kingdom +, writes (26 March 2007):

cd206 agony auntYou need to realise that six months isn't long enough for some people to be in love with their partners. For some people it takes a longer time and more effort before they can feel it. Your ex sounds like a great guy because at least he could admit his fears and doubts to you instead of taking the easy way out and lying to shut you up. He didn't tell you he wasn't in love with you to try and finish it, he did it in the spirit of honesty which makes him a great deal smarter than most men his age. Give yourself some time to calm down and then try to think about it logically.
