He'd be late picking me up and dropped me off early and never made up the time. Also he'd spend most of the time getting me to pull over whilst he arranged/cancelled other lessons!2nd instructor was nice enough BUT took holidays every other month so I'd have hardly any lessons and on a few occasions when he was supposed to be on holiday I saw him on a driving lesson in town! I confronted him and he denied it was him. Apparently my friend who reccomended him forgot to mention he lies to his students!3rd guy used to talk ALL THE TIME! He must have thought I was a councellor as he spent every lesson talking about his money troubles and how he had 5 kids to support. Then we'd spend my driving lesson picking up his wife and dropping her off somewhere, taking 1 of his kids to their friend etc... Even though he did make up the time my lessons used to run over by 1.5hours so I had to keep cancelling all my plans just to fit around him.I then decided to find myself a woman instructor who was great until she and her husband decided to move away to another part of the country. The 5th guy was a brother of an ex colleague who used to think making racist jokes and shouting at foreign and fat people on the road was funny...The amount of dirty looks we got I was terrified incase he said the wrong thing to the wrong person... My theory runs out in June and I'm not allowed a car until I pass my test. My parents won't take me out in their car and say I have to have a proper instructor.3 of the instructors I used were from the main schools advertised in the UK and 2 were private.Im paying for lessons myself. I don't see any point in making complaints against the schools now I'm no longer with them. What do I do??? I'm desperate to get my licence!

I hated my first driving instructor he kept taking over the controls to the point where I don't think I was actually driving and so I sacked them. The second one was a nice bloke but he kept ogling women whilst I was driving and making comments about Linda Lusardi (nice as she is) but his sense of humour won me over. In the end I did start going out in my Mums car (with her or my Dad) to practice so that I had the minimum amount of lessons possible - just enough to pick up the key things an instructor is looking for. The more practice you can get outside lessons the better - do you have any other relatives or older friends that drive that could help you? - you can select quiet roads or even industrial estates on a Sunday to try your three point turns and reverse around corners etc. In the end I only had a total of 5 lessons and I passed first time - this was mainly because of practising.

Ok firstly you need to talk to your parents about if they can put you on their insurance and if they will go out with you once in a while to practise. I found this really helped. Even offer to pay for the insurence if it helps, its a lot cheaper to put youself on a parents insurance.
Next you should probably talk to friends that you consider good drivers who have passed quickly. Ask them all about their instructors; they will give you honest answers. And then you just have to get down to it and pick one! No driving instructor is perfect, mine used to drive me up the wall but you just have to stick with it :) It's always best to have a instructor because for the actual test they want you to drive in a certain way and an instructor will know all the little things they want. Nobody drives like that after they pass, thats when the real learning begins :) Good luck!!

This sounds like you have had a run of bad luck, but am afraid there is'nt much advice i can give you here as you just need to look for an instructer that is good. You just need to keep searching and you will find one, You dont actually meantion here if you are a good driver or not, so just keep practicing and practicing and you will soon get the hang of it, good luck
