There are medicines you can get over the counter like Senacot, but it's easier just to go and eat a massive bowl of shreddies and some fruit and a lot of water.

If there is still no movement by tomorrow then try senacot, if that doesn't work then head to the doctor.

Good Luck!! xx

A female reader, anonymous, writes (3 August 2008):

Drink lots of water. Dehydration is the most common cause of constipation. Eat lots of fibre. Beetroot is very good. Do some exercise, especially exercise that involves jumping up and down. If this doesn't work get Fybogel from a chemist. You can get laxatives off the shelf and won't have to ask! If that doesn't work you could try a senna based laxative. These should be used with caution because they can damage your gut if you take too many too often. Follow the instruction leaflet. See your doctor if you don't pass anything at all for several days, develop severe gut pain, or try all the things above and find that none work. If your periods have started recently, this could be temporary constipation related to your menstrual cycle. Don't worry about it. Constipation is uncomfortable but very rarely serious.
