If I decide to quit a church associated group, how do I do that?

A male United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I joined the Knights of Columbus a few years ago, and I regret it. I still believe in my Catholic Faith and I still want to attend the Catholic mass every Sunday. I just no longer wish to belong to the Knights of Columbus.

When I joined, I thought the Knights of Columbus at my church would be doing more charity work. I was wrong. My council, it is nothing more than "we need to have fish fries during Lent to pay the bills" and "let's us tell you (the members) about the Knights of Columbus Insurance".

I get along with about half of the members but I find the other half to be annoying. The Knights of Columbus hall near my church does "sell" beer before the meetings and the half that I find annoying are the ones that drink before the meetings. So pretty much, the members I find annoying are the ones that are a little drunk.

How do I quit the Knights of Columbus? What paperwork do I need to feel out? I tried to look at their web-site and could not find any information. I have not decided yet if I am quitting, but if I do decide to quit, I want to know how before I let the Knights of Columbus at my church know.

CindyCares agony aunt You are paying yearly dues to be part of KofC. Notify the Financial Secretary of the Council that is sending you the bills, °in writing°, that you no longer wish to be a member so you ask to be dropped from their rolls.

Send them a registered letter, so that you get the receipt back. Keep a Xerox copy of the letter with the receipt. They are required to remove you from the rolls if you request it , so you have proof that you requested it.
