dearkelja agony auntI think I read somewhere that if a man doesn't call you by your name or if he doesn't use your name often enough that he has some kind of detachment to you. I have heard that if a man says your name often that it is an indication of affection.

I may be off base here but I was married for 22 years and had a similar problem with my husband not calling me by my name. It bothered me. He always called me bunnies which is an endearment but I always wanted him to call me by my name. I asked him why once and he said it was just easier. In the end, it is true that he did not have the love/respect for me as an individual that he should have.

I am of the belief that if a man has trouble calling you by your name or saying your name in the heat of passion that there is some kind of detachment going on. That is my opinion.

By I caution, that is my opinion based on my experience.

What does he call you instead? I have called my girlfriend 'baby' 9 out of the 10 months we have been together and only use her name around her parents. She doesn't mind and shes the same with me.

A female reader, rockelle United States +, writes (17 December 2007):

rockelle agony auntIs this a new boyfriend? Do you have a name that is very hard to pronounce? That could be the problem. Why dont you just ask him why he doesn't call you by your name. The best way to get an answer to your question is just to simply ask him.
