Not long after I turned 16, I noticed that I hadn't had a period for about 3 months. I went to my doctor, who said that it was probably stress related because of exams at the time. I found this strange because I wasn't under a lot of pressure at that time, and there was nothing else going on in my life that would have caused stress, so I had three/four pregnancy tests which all came back negative. In the end, I had a period but then they stopped again altogether, and it has now been about 4 months since my last one. I've researched it on the internet, and there are a lot of sites which say it could be diet related/stress related. There have been no changes to my diet, no stress in my life (lucky eh!) so I definately don't think it's this. I really would like to know what is causing this to happen, because surely if this continues into adulthood my chances of conceiving are minimal? Anybody had similar problems, or have any idea what could be the cause? I'd be very grateful for any replies.

I started my period when i was 12, and it was regular.. to the exact day usually. Then december came and my period didnt ( i came on at the beginning of every month- the 4th if i remember correctly!) and i didnt come on that month until the morning of christmas day- i thought it was because i had been excited! Then january came and i didnt have a period at all, neither did i have one in febuary or march. My mum was worried but i kept reassuring her i wasnt pregnant as at that time i hadnt had sex.I wore tampons and sanitary towels for months, untill eventually in june i noticedai light orangey stain, and the next day my period came. Since then my periods have been irregular, at first i was very much like you, some months id have one, some months i didnt. i lost count on how many pregnancy tests i did when i was 15, as i was worried sick! But as i got older my periods have got more regular, i now have a period every month- there never when there ment to be but i will have one every month without fail. So id say leave it a while and enjoy not having a period- dont stress out as this can stop them. But if in say 3-4 months theres still no period go and pay another visit to your doc!I hope this helps!G' xx

Sometimes amenorhea (spelling?) is caused by being too skinny. You have to have a certain percentage of body fat to menstruate. If you are very athletic or very skinny that could cause you to stop your periods.
