Question - (11 October 2015) 2 Answers - (Newest, 12 October 2015)
A female United Kingdom age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I am 19 years old and I have recently decided that I would like to be a stay at home mum when I am older.

However being realist I know that I am going to need to have my own source of income.

Do you have any suggestion for jobs which I would be able to do from home, but still have plenty of time to focus on raising a family ?

Just in case this isn't as clear as it is in my head. The question is; Best job for a stay at home mum?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (12 October 2015):

Online teacher/Tutor, Subject qualified? could do a distance learning course to get your subject knowledge. Distant learning and teaching is becoming more popular these day's. You could earn good regular money here , it is worth looking at but may i suggest English as a quicker route for a subject if you don't have one or maybe 'Tefl' teaching English foreign language' if you don't have a degree in English. A lot of opportunity with English language.

You could certainly stay at home to bring your family up at the same time.

Good Luck

Abella agony auntSometimes it's the luck of the draw in the choices you make that could lead to some income, a sporadic income, no income at all or a spectacular income.

Do you have a passion for any particular area of life? Or any particular line of work?

What skills do you already have that you could further develop?

Since you mention that you'd like to work from home I have factored in some things, such as:

I assume you mean to especially be there for your children then for the first five years of their lives when the care is intense. Once they are at school you will find that some additional opportunities will open up for you, as you should have more time on your hands. Though this is not the case if you also want to home school your children.

Initially, when the children are very young, you may find that any kind of party plan work would not suit you as party plan work involves being on the road on a regular basis and would often involve evening baby sitting while you attended and evening to show the products.

As a regular buyer of products on Etsy.com I know that many sellers there are very creative people with great skills to create wonderful products and provide excellent customer service. Offer what people really want and customers will beat a path to your door.

Could you learn some skills to make unique gifts?

JK Rowling proved that being passionate about writing can lead to success sometimes.

Join a writers group and attend some classes on writing. Learn about writing great dialogue, settings and characters and plot development. Though remember only a few reach the stage where a publisher becomes interested in your manuscript.

Online sellers don't just make things to sell. There is a very healthy trade in selling fresh seeds - vegetables and ornamental plants online.

Do you have any dressmaking skills that you could develop? Dressmakers who work from home continue to be in high demand and if you can make clothes very well then you can charge accordingly though you would need to set aside one room at home to do this work. I have a neighbor who makes glorious wedding and prom dresses and mother of the bride outfits.

Are you good at cooking? Did you know that if you put up videos on YouTube that you can earn an income from advertisements (googleadvertisments) if your videos become popular enough? The income can be spectacular if you are hitting the right notes with enough viewers.

Find a niche market and develop it. Such as cooking for children's parties.

Have you enjoyed exercising and doing aerobics? Or could you then develop some expertise in that area to become an online personal trainer? Load the videos onto youtube. Then once again - if your videos become popular enough you can generate an income via google advertisements.

Could you grow herbs - mint, parsley, oregano, sage, thyme etc and sell them once a month at a Farmer's market in your city?

Alternatively could you reduce your own food bill by growing your own fruit and vegetables via the use of a local community garden? This is not an income source but is a way to reduce your costs in the future and allow your children to enjoy healthy fresh eating at home.

Concentrate on things you really enjoy. Then develop that skills in ways that can lead to you being able to hone those skills to the point where you can earn a living from home using skills you can use at home.

Hope my suggestions fire up some ideas within you that you can develop to create an income stream at home.
