Question - (12 November 2011) 1 Answers - (Newest, 12 November 2011)
A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I was wondering if anyone could give any advice on what i could write to a host family for an Au Pair job ?. They want to know a bit of information about me as a person, and they want to know why i want to go to their country to be an Au Pair. I would like to say that i enjoy helping people, travelling and meeting new people from different countries ( i also have friends ho live in their country ), that i find people from their country to be very friendly and polite, and also that i visited their country once and thought it was a beautiful place, and would love to experience living there and learning more about their culture. I'm not sure whether to mention this, but i first became interested in their country because my favourite band is from there ( they are the most famous band to come out of that country ) . I could also tell them about my parents and siblings, so they know what kind of background i come from, and what my hobbies and interests are.Do you have any othe ideas ?. Any help would be much appreciated !.

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (12 November 2011):

Tisha-1 agony auntI'd talk about your personality a bit too, like how patient you are and if you are calm in a crisis. Give examples of how your personality means you would be a good au pair, and that you would be someone they can trust with their precious children.

Can you be firm with children when necessary? How do you manage to keep things under control when children are cranky or sleepy or whiny?

I'm sure they are less interested in how fascinating you find their country than in how fabulous you would be as a au pair. Talk about the qualities that set you apart from other au pairs.

I think mentioning the band is fine, as long as you don't sound too much like a groupie! As in, you won't abandon your duties should the band be in town, or stalk the band, ha!

If you know someone who was an au pair, talk about what they learned working abroad and that you would like to experience that sort of personal growth as well.

That's all I've got for right now, good luck getting the job.
