reader, anonymous, writes (5 March 2009): The "Eyes" have it, anon (smile). Guys can pick up on visual signs pretty quickly. We are just geared that way. Small talk may not get the desird response. But a "certain look" when a girl/woman is talking to you can indicate many things. Many girls fake non-interest to make guys "interested". This is not a good strategy. He most likely just reads "non-interest" and lets it go. Use small talk to gain his attention, as in what groups he likes..favorite movies, etc. and drop casual compliments. And use eye contact.
