ArmyMedic agony auntIf you can't trust them why did you tell them? It sounds too me that you are worried because you can't keep a secret to yourself that they can't either!

Trust is the most important thing in friendship, so you really are putting your friends to the test. I'm sure the only time they would break your trust is if it was a dangerous secret, in which case as friends they are obliged to tell someone.

AskMelissa agony auntIf they are your real best friends and you really think you can trust them then I would not worry about it. But if you cant stop thinking about it then sit down with them and make sure they know not to tell. They are your best friends, they will listen!

It's too late now! There's nothing you can do to change what has already happened. It is dangerous when you tell two or more people a secret. If they know others know, they are more likely to talk about it and you won't know who actually said something!

All you can do is go to them and let them know your concerns about the secret getting out!

maeisforlovers16 agony auntIf they are truly your two best friends, you should trust the fact that they won't tell. And if they do tell, then they aren't really what I'd consider a 'friend'. Talk with them and let them know how important it is to you for them to keep your secret safe.

A female reader, alyssa_4evahz United States +, writes (22 March 2009):

They are your best friends. Shouldn't you trust them? If you are really worried, why don't you talk to your best friends and tell them how that secret will hurt other people if revealed. But the best thing might be staying silent and trust your friends. The only reason you feel that they are going to tell is because that secret is something nobody should know. You know your bestfriends. You must have known they would not tell that is why you told them. Is that right?
