Over a year ago, I found my favorite bracelet, a diamond cuff bracelet missing. It was hidden in the side pocket of my suitcase, which was in my bedroom. I keep my bedroom locked when I'm not there. My boyfriend moved in with me about a month before I found the bracelet missing. I have another roommate, who had a girfriend spending the night a few times back then. Yet, they don't have a key to my room. My boyfriend is the only person who had a key.

I mentioned the theft to my boyfriend at that time. I even asked him if he took it. He said he didn't take my bracelet. He said he thinks my roommate or my roommate's friend took it. Since I wasn't sure who took my bracelet, I didn't report it to the police. I still can't get past this and feel I can't truth my boyfriend. I think about the bracelet often and still wonder did he take it? How can I get past this? Is it too late to file a police report?

oldbag agony aunt Hi

Well you have a gut feeling so you are going with it.As he had access to your room then he is suspect. The fact he didn't wait with you at the hospital doesn't say much for his caring side either, from what you said he just left you there, then took the opportunity to steal your bracelet.

However as he actually lived with you, he could have taken things at any time you weren't around.

Have you checked your Bank etc to make sure your account hasn't been used since he's been gone? I definately would as you don't trust him.And as you don't trust him,yes its best that you have finished it.

After much thought, I have come to this conclusion: I wore the bracelet last on July 3rd. On that afternoon, I got very sick, had extreme weakness and vertigo. Thinking I might have to go to the hospital, I placed the bracelet in my usual hiding place...the side pocket of my suitcase. I left it there. I did not end up going to the hospital until the next day. My boyfriend dropped me off at the hospital ER, taking the keys to my house and car. He was inside my house, including my bedroom for over 8 hours while I was in ER.

I was ill until some time in August. When I went to get dressed and wear the bracelet again, it was missing from my suitcase.

I noticed a pink jewelry travel purse missing from the top shelf of a shelving rack in my bedroom. I believe it was taken at the same top. I think it would have made the perfect way to present the bracelet as a gift to a woman. I believe my boyfriend gave my bracelet to another woman in this brand new travel purse.

I have come to the conclusion it had to be my boyfriend who stold my bracelet. He has since moved out and I'm ending the relationship with him over this. I do wonder thought what if I'm wrong??

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your responses! No, it was not insured. The value is around $600. Yes, I believe someone did know I had the bracelet in there. This is a good point! Perhaps, my boyfriend saw me put it in there. Otherwise, someone did have to ramsack my room. Also missing was my Lexus valet key from the key case in my bathroom. I have since had my car reprogrammed at the dealer. I did not want to think my ex-boyfriend could do such a thing! He has recently moved out. Now I'm coming to terms with who he really is versus the person I believed him to be. I have looked everywhere in my bedroom hoping to find this bracelet for one year, but have not. Unfortunately, it's gone along with a couple other things of lesser value.

oldbag agony auntHi

Somebody would have had to ransack your room to find it unless you told them where you had hidden it.Why would they even look in the side pocket of a suitcase - they surely wouldn't *expect* a valuable bit of jewellry to be there.

I think the police would wonder what took you so long and ask if anything else of value went missing from your room. You could try.

MsSadie agony auntWas it expensive enough to be a big deal if you reported it?

If so, mention to your roommate, his/her girlfriend, and your boyfriend that you reported its theft to the police, regardless of whether or not you actually do, and then ask one last time if they've any idea what may have happened to it.

But first check your room again.
