I think it's time for a late night one on one chat. You have to tell him that he has to stop doing this. He's only doing it to get your attention and because he's not able to handle his feelings. Let him get his feelings out and tell him you value his friendship so this must end. Warn him that he'll have another girlfriend one day and he doesn't want a girl that might say something bad and true about him.
Talk with him frankly but in a friendly way. You might find that you end up with a good friend instead of what is happening now. Good luck!
