writes:Hello!I broke up with my ex (we went out for about a year and a half) about a year and a half ago now. She was pretty much my first love, and we broke up in the end because things were getting too obsessive from both angles and she ended it. However, we still kept meeting up and even took a holiday together which we'd had booked to Venice, and things just got very messy until eventually she just decided to pretty much stop all contact with me :( This was very hard for me, and even to this day I still rarely speak to her and if I try to talk to her I get simple one word answers like she just doesn't want to even know me anymore. This gets to me, since we split I've had constant dreams about trying to get back together with her and they are really starting to get to me. I probably think about her at least once a day and just find it so bloody hard to forget about her. I am still only 18 it might be worth mentioning. I haven't really had a proper relationship since, although I have dated girls I usually just end it because I keep subconciously thinking they are not good enough for me. I don't want to feel this way.Please could somebody help me out and suggest what I might try doing?Joe

I knwo its difficult to move on and stop thinking about her but it will get easier! I was 17 when i met my first love and he broke up with me a year later and i still think about him even though its been 5 years. If you dont look for love it will come to you!
You will find another girl who you will love 10 times more than your first love! But go out and have fun with your friends!
They are called you ex for a reason! It probably just wasnt meant to be!

reader, anonymous, writes (16 October 2007): I understand this, but its just how to go about moving on that I'm struggling with, I do actively try to meet new girls and get to know them, but the underlying problem is still always there. I dream about her at least twice a week, I just don't understand, its holding me back.

You need to move on and give some other girls a chance. Stop looking for a girl like the old one. Each person is unique.
