I still haven't had my period after changing my method of birth control. Has anyone else experienced this?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *upid_or_Stupid writes:

I recently had my IUD coil removed as I was having trouble with it and the new method I chose was the Mini Pill (POP) which is the Cerazette one. I must stress me and my BF have never had any luck with condoms so we don't use them, hence why it's so important for us that we have another method securely in place before having sex.

I started taking it five days before I had sex again. I was told I would be protected after two days. I know you're meant to take it within a 12 hour slot so I took my first pill the night I got them but decided to start my routine in the morning as I'd remember it better then so took the next one about 12 hours later the next morning. I've taken 14 pills so far.

I had period pains the first few days of taking the pill but no period as I wasn't due on until the 22nd which was over a week later. Since then I've been waiting for my period. I'm now 6 days late with no signs whatsoever of a period. I'm going to wait a few more days and if I still don't get it then I'm going to take a pregnancy test just to be certain that's not an option because I know these things aren't 100% safe. My doctor told me I'd probably stop having periods after a few months but I didn't think it would work straight away.

Can anyone tell me if they've experienced similar or if they know why my period is late? Should I be worried?

I'm just afraid that I've gotten pregnant during the switch over between birth control. I took the precautionary measures and I've never missed a pill. I've not taken them dead on time every day but I've always been well within the twelve hours.

Please help!

Well, this really needs a doctor or nurse to give you clear answers, but just to say i used to be on the pill and i had periods then i changed to the IUS and the periods have not happened once since i changed. Not everyone reacts the same to contraception and as you already used a hormonal/chemical contraception before its likely your body was just used to it. But it would be a good idea to do a test, just so you can put your mind at rest and not stress you out. Good luck, and well done for using protection.
