I still bleed when we have sex - how long will this continue?

About 2 months ago I lost my virginity to my bf, before we actually had sex he would pleasure me with his fingers. One night we had figured I had 'popped' because I had bleed a lot. Well now that we are sexually active, I still tend to bleed. I asked my OBGYN why and she said that it is probably because I have a sensitive cervix. How long will this bleeding continue? - because frankly it's embarassing.

Wendyg agony auntOkay what I was trying to establish is where the blood was coming from, either the hymen area or deeper inside. Im sensing you are quite young and that maybe you started periods a little later the most.. just a hunch and maybe could cause some spotting in between periods. But as you say it happens the deeper he is it sounds as thought its your cervical area, I would definately get this looked at is it isnt normal for this to be happening if it isnt time of the month. There could be loads of reasons for this, a slight infection being one of those, or it could just be one of those things and will go in time, a silly question but have you made sure that an old tampax as been removed.. probably nothing like it, but one of my friends once had sex without removing a tampax and caused no end of probs when she realised, anyway was just a thought and maybe not likely. But definately dont leave it, you can always request a smear and some swabs to be done to get to the bottom of it, and if your not happy ask for a second opinion.

Take care

Well I don't bleed a lot, and it doesn't really hurt, only when he thrusts a little too far but even then it isn't that sore. One time he had just shoved it in, and that was the second time we had sex, and bleed a lot then. Now, it seems to provide somewhat of a "lubricant", but like I said it isn't a lot.

DrPsych agony auntBleeding during sex is not normal (except for the first time). It can be a sign of a cervical abnormality, a problem with the vagina or uterus - it isnt necessarily serious but certainly needs checking out with a doctor. I am sure you are aware that once you become sexually active you should be plugged into cervical screening as it is recommended for all women (well in my area aged 25+). I know you maybe embarrassed to talk to a doctor about your problem but it is surprisingly common - you can just walk into one of those community family planning clinics and they will sort you out with various tests.

Wendyg agony auntIf you are still bleeding after 2 months I would suggest going back to your gyno... Ive heard that its possible to bleed for about a week after the first time you have had sex, but that in itself is due to the hymen being broken and not the cervix, and it shouldnt actually be "alot" of blood. Are you on a period that has become prolonged ? Is it constant or each time you have sex ? Is it painful when you have sex, it could be a re opening of the slight tear when you lost your virginty, and sometimes might be worthwhile waiting for that to heal a bit and be more gentle until this has healed. I would get checked out as I dont feel that the cervix, should normally be bleeding, each time you have sex, but the area where the hymen was could be. Best to get it looked at again.
