And I just get this feeling, you know? I called him cute once when I was really intoxicated and he said he thought I was cute too. He is best friends with one of my good friends who just pretty much told me he is in love with me (I find that hard to believe... and he was drunk... but I do know he likes me quite a bit) I know that it's really not worth a friendship but it sucks... a lot.But he is shy. He looks at me sometimes a lot and has this lazy sort of smile. Then sometimes he doesn't look at me all. Sometimes he hugs me a lot and some days he doesn't. It's all really complicated. I know nothing will ever come of it but I really dig this kid.

reader, anonymous, writes (24 November 2008): The more time you spend with him the more his confidence around you will grow. If he's acting a bit shy then chances are he does like you, or at least would like to have a girlfriend. Just spend more time with him and then unless something happens indicating he is not interested in you, then ask him out. He sounds like he might need a lot of company so even if he says no he'll still probably want to be friends.
Give it some time then go for it =]
