writes: I had a baby 2 months ago, I only eat 1,000 calories a day, I exercize. I only eat whole grain bread, cereal, and skim milk, and fruit and veggies and white meat or fish that is very low in fat. I don't eat sugars other than natural ones in fruit. I lost 10 pounds, and it came back overnight. Then I lost it again, but I can't seem to lose any more. I have been at the same weight for the last week. I am very discouraged. I used to lose weight very easily, but since the baby, it's impossible. I don't want to drop below 1,000 calories per day, I have to be healthy to take care of baby/ I just stopped breast feeding. I did a thing online that said on average I burn 2,100 calories a day just living. So if I am only eating 1,000 a day, why aren't I losing weight?

Your body is still in "pregnancy mode" and wants you to keep your weight, so that you can support another human being. Once you're done breastfeeding, your hormones will return to normal and your body is no longer physically responsible for both you and your child, so it will let you lose weight more easily.

Having a baby does slow down your metabolism and it means you have less time to exercise and eat healthy. What strikes me may be your problem now is that you're eating too little. It's very unhealthy, even when you're on a diet, to drop below 1200 calories a day because it gets to the point where your body has so little in it that it starts to store everything you eat as fat rather than muscle and bone etc. Up your calorie count just slightly and exercise as much as possible. The other thing that might be a problem is if you're exercising so much that you're toning up quicker than you're losing weight. Muscle weighs more than fat so you can actually be putting on weight even though you're much healthier and fitter. Take some polaroids of your problem areas and then take fresh ones every few weeks. I think you'll see a bigger difference doing that than using weighing scales. Alternatively measure your problem areas monthly and aim to drop half an inch to an inch per month off your tummy, hips and bum and an inch every three months off thighs etc.
If none of this works have a chat to a dietician. It sounds like you're doing everything right but they can probably advise you further.
