reader, anonymous, writes (21 August 2009): Oh, about the dark spots, acne after it goes away can cause some darker pigmentation. There are bleaching creams that you can get to help with this, but wear a good sunscreen daily (non comedogenic, oil free)under your makeup to keep the from getting darker spots....Also, if you wear foundation, make sure it is water-base, oil-free foundation, and it says non-comedogenic.
You do not want to add more moisture to your face with a moisturizer....if you have to use one, use a non-comedogenic type without lanolin, lanolin is in many popular skin lotions and it is irritating to the skin.

reader, anonymous, writes (21 August 2009): The thing is your hormones at your age are causing your skin to produce more oil, and pimples are due to skin cells and oil clogging your hair follicles and causing irritation and then infection.
A lot of teenagers, scrub and wash their face too hard because of this which just causes more irritation.
Look for a gently face wash at your pharmacy, something with a small amount of salycilic acid helps to control blackheads which can lead to pimples. Then get a 1% benzoyl peroxide solution and apply this to existing pimples to help to dry them out, be careful with your towels and bedding as benzoyl can bleach fabrics.
Be sure and wash after sweating and excercise to remove bacteria on the skin.
Diet doesn't play a huge roll, but if you can eat nutritous foods rather than a lot of sweets or fatty foods, it will just help with your overall health which will help your skin.
If these steps do not improve your skin, you may need to go on antibiotics from your doctor, see a specialist in dermatology, there are a lot of newer treatments that can help a lot....
