I am running for an important position. My ex and I are not friends but are not on bad terms and he has agreed to provide a reference. I need ten and we were together for ten years. He called a couple of weeks ago and asked me to get back to him about it. I called and his new girlfriend picked up the phone. She asked who it was. I said who I was and she said my ex did not want to talk to me. After she said this there was a silence. I was so put off and humiliated I just hung up...I did not feel that I should have to justify my request to her. I really do need the reference but do not know what to do. I do not want to cause problems for my ex and his girlfriend. Any suggestions appreciated.
