A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Can you use conditioner as a replacement shaving cream for your genital area? And does hair removal cream actually burn you or/and make you bleed? Im 15 and im not quite sure what to do. Do i just shave downwards, or upwards, and what happens if you have a few little hairs growing from a bit inside your vagina? I've tried shaving once or twice, and i now have ingrwn hairs and little red bumbs, not attractive or smooth at all. Pleaaase help.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (2 July 2010):

chigirl agony auntDon't use shaving cream for your genital area. Take a shower first, then use lots of water and shave in the direction of the hairs. Don't aim to be smooth as that will just give you ingrown hairs. And if you have hairs growing inside your vagina (really though? I didn't know that was possible), do not shave those as it is too risky. Trim with a scissor at most or leave alone completely.
