A female , anonymous writes:

There is a guy Tim that I have come to like in my art class. He is artistic, funny, sweet and athletic. The thing is, his ex. She cheated on him so they broke up and he was very hurt by it (as he should have been.)Then they started hugging in the hall all of a sudden. I don't know the surcomstamces. I haven't heard if they are going back out or not. During all of this Tim and I have began talking more. I really like him and want to bring this to the next level but I don't know what to do. Thanks.

DrPsych agony auntYou should sit back and wait to see what happens. It is better to just watch and see than dive in there and get mixed up in a mess between him and his 'ex'. Maybe he still has a thing about her and you don't want to be his rebound girl, or someone to make her jealous with. By all means be pals with this guy in the meantime, and perhaps raise the subject of the status of his relationship with this girl. I am sure he probably knows if there is 'chemistry' between you and him and you should perhaps suggest you go out for a drink sometime 'as friends'...but leave it up to him to make the move up to the next level as only he truely knows about if he is over his ex.
