writes: I am 14 years old and for a long time i have been pretending to my freinds that i have periods as i feel embarassed as they all have a period.Im in so deep now that i dont know how to get out.I dont know how they will react if i tell them i have been lying for so long.Also what age do you have to be before you start your periods.I am gettin patanoid has most girls have a period at my age?

reader, anonymous, writes (8 November 2006): most of my friends just got there period this year (where all 13) but i still have friends that havent gotten it yet, everyone is different! i got mine when i was 10 almost 11! it sucked, cuase i was the only one who had it for years! i think ur lucky for not getting it yet, cuase when you do, u will have friends who know what your going though, and can help you though hard times (tampons, cramps etc.) i think you should tell your friends about that you havent gotten it yet! they wont judge you! trust me!
i used to be embarrassed about not using tampons (after 2-3 years of having my period) and i used to lie, but finnaly i told ppl, and they really didnt care, and i think the same thing will happen with you telling your friends u havent gotten your period yet! they will all still love you! and will get super exited when u get it! dont worry u will soon! just watch for moodyness, cramps, tenderness of the brests

Well, chances are that if you have lied so have some of them. I wouldn't bother telling them about it, just let it be a non-issue. It's possible to have very irregular periods at first too so you could go months without one anyway. Everybody develops at a different rate but once you all get to a certain age - 15/16 - everyone has started so it's a non-issue. I know it seems like a big deal but in the long term it's just part of life. Don't worry about it.

reader, anonymous, writes (7 November 2006): i was around 13 or 14 when i got my period. my mom when she was 16, and my sisters best friend is 11 years old. it comes when it comes and ur going to hate it then. dont feel embarressed about not having ur period. u should actually consider urself lucky

reader, anonymous, writes (7 November 2006): I got my periods when I was 15 so theres nothing to worry about. If you were a true friend you would talk to them and say you are ashamed and they would understand. If you dont you will live with this guilt. Good luck xxx
