Thank you in advance for anyone taking the time to read this! I suppose this is a more health-related question, but I could really do with some advice.

I'm going away with my boyfriend at the beginning of July to Spain. I know he loves me the way I am, but I really want to lose some weight before we go, because I don't feel comfertable with my body at all.

However, I don't know how to go about this. I've tried eating healthier, cutting out all the crap in effect, and it just doesn't seem to be shifting anything. I don't know if anybody knows of something that works for them?

I don't want people to think i'm trying to get ridiculously thin because of my age, i'm more sensible than that. I'm currently a size 14 and would like to get down to a size 10/12 :)

I always felt running/jogging was the best way for me to lose weight and you lose weight everywhere. Watching what you eat alone is not fully effective, you need some exercise to help speed up your metabolism and burn up those calories. Anything cardio really. I bought a cardio dance video and those things are a lot of fun! They can get a little old, but it's still fun, taught me how to dance! haha! Protein is a good thing to eat too when your trying to lose weight and build muscle also anything protein is very filling. I think your on the right track, just get some exercise on your plan!!

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (26 March 2009):

You probably don't need to lose more than a couple of pounds and what you really need is muscle tone to define the shape of your waist and bum etc.

Do things like waist twists.

Stand with you feet apart and your arms stretched out sideways (so you look like a starfish) and then slowly and gently twist your top half using only your waist. Go as far as you can, count to 5 then return to facing front. Then go the other way.

Don't do it fast or you could pull your back, and do it intensively for a day and then take the next day off. Your muscle gets broken and then needs to rebuild itself a bit bigger and better.

Also try doing sit ups. Do them fast and use only the muscles in your tummy. Don't throw yourself up and rely on momentum or you'll hurt your back and it won't do you any good.

Do 10 in a row really fast then have a break, then do ten more when you get your breath back. Again, 1 day on, one day off.

The fitter you get the more sit ups you can do in a row and the further you will be able to twist.

And the more muscles you have, the better your posture, and the more calories you will burn up just be sitting still.

Also remember to give all your slightly flabby bits a good rub with body cream or oil for at least 5 minutes at night. This will increase circulation and break down the fat. This is why all the magic cellulite creams tell you to apply it and rub it in for 5 minutes while drinking water. The cream does nothing but the rubbing and drinking will help it all get broken down and carted away in your bloodstream.

Good Luck!! xx
