I helped my friend get over her ex, but now I like him and I feel like a hypocrite!

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

OK, So there's this guy I know and I liked him loads at the beginning of the year until I found out he'd been with one of my best friends. I love my friend to bits but they're not seeing each other anymore and she now has a boyfriend, someone she's like since we were about 9 (that's a good 8 years) so anyway, I still occasionally talk to the guy I liked and he's since told me that he liked me at the same time I liked him but didn't think I was interested. I got the impression from one of his messages (this happened on msn btw) that he still does like me and I think I still like him. I don't know what to do/say because I don't know if I should like him for what he had done to my friend. I think she'd understand if I spoke to her about it but I don't know how to tell her without sounding hypocritical. I put my own feelings for him aside to help her get over him and now that she has I can't help feeling like I'm doing exactly what I told her not to. I really need help, anyone got any words of wisdom?
