About six months ago, I really started liking this girl. I couldn't stop thinking about her. But she was a senior, and I was a junior. I tried talking to her, and tried to make something happen before school ended, but I didn't succeed. Then I tried to make something happen before the summer ended, but I still have gotten nowhere. She leaves for college in one week. She'll be almost 3 hours away. What can I do to at least let her know how I feel? Because if I let her go, I know I would never get over it.

A reader, pops +, writes (13 August 2005):

Tell her. It may not change anthing, however. Girls her age are more mature than boys their own age, and are usually more interested in older men. If she is serious about college, she will want to date men who are at least her intellectual equal. That doesn't mean that men( and people in general) who end their formal education at high school are not intellectually interesting, but college is a very different experience, and those that go through it find it hard to spend time seriously with those who don't.
