writes:I have some fake friends on Facebook.There are some who rarely talk to me, some who have never spoken to me at all,even though i have sent them messages,and i'm really getting annoyed !.It feels like they just add you to be nosey and see what you're up to,not because they actually want to be friends with you.I want to delete the people who never see me or speak to me.One of them is my relative,which could be abit awkward,but i dont care.Ok,he's quite a distant relative,first cousin once removed,but we have got on really well when we have seen each other.We live a long way from each other now too,we used to live closer.He,nor the others,know that it upsets me,but i dont want to give them the satisfaction.If i delete them though,they'll know somethin is wrong.The others are friends i had at school.I dont want to de-activate my account completely,as there are some genine people on there.I'd even asked some to my birthday,and some turned me down,and didnt even give an explanation !.It would have been polite and courteous to say why.Do you think i should delete them from my friend list ?.

reader, anonymous, writes (25 March 2009): i can't help but feel offended.if i didn't want to do something,or couldn't,i would have the decency to say why,and apologise for not being able to.If i see my relative again at a family event or something, i will feel like ignoring him and saying why.I know for sure that he,and my other friends on facebook are very active on the website.I know i haven't seen the others much,but it's not hard to get re-aquainted.There are other people i could ask to my birthday though.
Anonymous,i agree.i'm starting to wonder if it's worth having an account on there at all.i have three options.i can either delete people who don't see or speak to me,or just not log into the site at all,or de-activate my account altogether.

reader, anonymous, writes (24 March 2009): Mostly everyone i know has so called 'fake friends' on facebook.Some people just like the 'number' of friends so they keep adding people.Don't worry too much..take it easy..
Don't rely on online sites for making or keeping friends either. Get in the real world.

I had a friend cull at the beginning of this year.
They don't get told when you defriend them, so just get on with them.
Half of them probably created their account, added a lot of people and then just abandoned it.
It's not like you are kicking their cat. It's only facebook.
