writes: Im 16 and have strong feelings for my second cousin, we have been really good friends for a long time and on haloween we kissed. Over christmas we spent alot of time together although she has a boyfriend. I want to know if theres anything wrong with what we are doing, and the dangers of a sexual relationship?

reader, anonymous, writes (3 January 2007): People did sometimes marry their second cousins back in history but this was mostly because there were not as many people to meet and to marry and sometimes it was for financial reasons of sharing a homestead etc, does not mean that it is a good thing to do in modern society when you have so many other choices.

reader, anonymous, writes (3 January 2007): I thnk you are in dangerous territory here, it is not so unusual that you might have sexual feelings for your cousin simply because you are at the age where your hormones are running high, and your cousin is familiar and safe to you, but you need to start respecting some boundaries here, she is family, she is too closely related to you to bear children with, and you need to keep your relationship on a non-sexual friendship kind of basis...in other words go take a cold shower or what ever you need to do to get control of yourself and look elsewhere in another dating pool for a romantic partner to hook up with.

Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt were second cousins. The European royal families have been marrying their cousins throughout history. It does kind of limit the old gene pool however. Any physiology that isn't up to snuff could be magnified.
