I have feelings for my manager, does he like me too?

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I work in a bookshop, and I've developed a real crush on the assistant manager there. He's 35, so 10 years older than me (although I'm mature for my age and tend to like older people) and also my immediate superior so I don't know if it would be a good idea to act on it.

Sometimes it seems as though he likes me too. For example, I text him quite a bit and he always sends quite long messages back (although he never intitates the texting), plus we've hung out a few times outside work, going to the pub or cinema, sometimes just the two of us. The other week we ended up going for dinner on the friday night after work, and it was just the two of us (someone else was invited but didn't go). We stayed for hours and he paid for my meal, which was sweet. Also I kind of stroked the side of his hair briefly, as I was leaving, and he looked all surprised (but not pissed off) and said thanks for coming and it had been a really nice evening.

He also said he had 'no objection' to coming out to the village where I live, as my parents are away for a month and I said I would appreciate some company (although I said there was no need to come out here and we could just meet up and hang out together occasionally).

However, at other times he seems either a little unfriendly, or maybe just platonic. Although I suppose he might be shy (he is quite socially inept at times).

I just don't know. Do you think he's attracted to me? I'm really developing feelings for him but maybe I should just keep it as friends. I'm leaving my job in a few months anyway as my contract runs out so that won't be a problem (him being my 'boss') for much longer.

Sorry this is long, and probably boring to anyone but me but I would really appreciate some replies. Thank you!

tennisstar88 agony auntIf you're mature for your age then you already know it's a BAD idea to come on to your assistant manager and fraternize with them outside of the work place. Each company/work place has it's own set of rules. Even though it may be a small bookshop it's still inappropriate to date your boss.

Now, from your post alone I can't tell if he's interested in you. Sounds more like he's being friendly, then withdrawing from you because he doesn't want to give you the wrong impression. The best thing to do would be to back off from fraternizing with him, so no inappropriate situations arise..then wait till you leave your job to ask him out.
