reader, anonymous, writes (18 December 2006): According to doctors, the IUD is supposed to be a good, effective form of birth control. But like any birth control method nowadays, there really is no 100% sure fire method to prevent pregnancy. I had an IUD when I was 22 and managed to still get pregnant with my daughter. She's 27 now! But IUD's were not as well made 30 years ago as they are now. I am concerned about your comment in regards to pain in your lower abdomen. Is there any pain or bleeding during and after sex? Or any unusual vagina discharge? Sometimes IUD's are famous for creating problems. If a female has ever had an STD (eg: gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc) or pelvic infection sometimes caused by a past STD. But let's be sensible here. Don't depend on medical advice from a website like this--we are not doctors and your health is important. Get to your family doctor and have yourself checked out. Do it today.
