 You need to ask him. That said, using two forms of contraception and birth control is really important because one can fail, leaving the other to do its job.
Ask him, but do use condoms or femidoms in future too.

 Sounds really suspicious to me. You both don't use them so why on earth would they be in his pocket? I would be looking for other signs. There must have been some reason you thought to look through his pockets. If he is acting shady I wouldn't ignore that sign.

However we can give you our honest opinion and personally it doesn't look good to me. If he knows you are on contraception what would be the use in buying condoms?
The way you said it he made out condoms are something you play with during sex such as a vibrator, sex toys etc. Condoms are just purely there to prevent pregnancy which you do not need.
I would have a serious chat with him about this to see his reactions and if he really is lying you'll be able to tell.

I think you tell him that if you discover he playing around he can just bugger off until then you don't have a lot to go on though agreed these condoms are a concern .. so it's a wait and see sorry sweetie
