A female reader, anonymous, writes (24 April 2008):

hey now...don't get too worried about it! I'm 13 and i just experienced a situation just like this! I was worried if i made a move, and my parents found out...that i would be in big trouble. I was also afraid they would go talk to the boy personally, so i pondered on the idea for a while.

My conclusion was I was going to go up to this guy that I liked and ask him out, just to see what he would say.

After asking him out, and him saying, "heck yes!"...i went to my parents and told them what had happened.

My mom was thrilled, and my dad was like, "My little is growing up!!" they even told me to invite him over sometime.

so just do what you want and talk to your parents about it.

hope this helps!

Um, how would your parents be involved honey? If you ask him out at school, they needn't know, as long as things between the two of you don't get too serious. It's just a crush, I'm sure they won't be mad.

It would really help if you could be a little more specific. Are you crushing on a boy or a girl? How old is he or she? What is your relationship to this person now? Feel free to send me a message, and we can talk about it. Best wishes!
