reader, anonymous, writes (9 November 2010): Do you have any family or friends you could stay with until you get back on your feet? If not, I would suggest going to see social services about getting on financial assistance until you can get a job/find an apartment/babysitter, etc. There is probably some sort of income-based housing in your area, plus you will probably be able to get child support from the father. Look some agencies up on the internet and see what options are available for you.
