When you are taking the pill you are protected during the weeks you are taking it and during your pill-free week. Obviously, the pill is not 100% effective so there will always be a slight chance you can get pregnant. The success rate of the pill is roughly 97-99.9% providing you are taking it correctly. Up to 3 in 100 women get pregnant on the pill (I was one of them, I'm almost 8 weeks pregnant, it DOES happen).
Also, the effectiveness of the pill is decreased if you have missed a pill, thrown up or had a stomach upset but if none of this stuff has happened to you then chances are you will be ok.
I will agree with Satindesire about doubling up on contraception. Using a condom as well as the pill will practically eradicate your chance of becoming pregnant. That way, you never have to have these situations where you're worrying that your pill has failed you. I am a walking example that it doesn't always work (thankfully I am happy about it). Have a think about it.
Hope I helped and good luck.
