About 9 years ago i had genital warts which were treated and gone. and my mate came around last night and told me she has got clamydia which brought back memories for me, so this morning i went and did some research on the net to read that once u have genital warts there is no cure even though it has been treated u still have the virus that lives in the skin so now im really worried that it could come back at any time. but surely my x would have had it as i was with him for 4 years and now with my new partner of 10 months would have it.please help me put my mind at rest.

ok i can help you with this one as my sister recently got it and i went with her to all of her hospital appointments so i know the medical side of this.
genital warts are caused by a virus. once you have caught the virus there is no way to get rid of it. you wont always have the warts, but you will always have the virus. you may or may not ever get the warts again, but the virus which causes the flare ups is still in you.
its like cold sores. some people are prone to them and some people arent - that is because the people who are prone to them have the virus which causes them. it doesnt mean they walk around 24/7 with a cold sore but it does mean they pop up every now and then.
if you have had unprotected sex with anyone, then yes they will almost certainly have caught the virus from you so it is important you tell them because while they may not have a flare up of the warts (yet) they probably will get them at some point.
You should visit your local GUM clinic and they will give you as much information as you need.
best of luck x

Hi
Go to the doctor and ask him for his opinion. Also if that does happen then you can just get it treated again. Speak to your gynacologist for more info.Get about 2 opinions and then you can decide what you gonna do.Dont stress untill you know that for sure.
Regards, mail me if you wanna talk
