My boyfriend of four years is staying at a hotel for work for a month and this is the second time I've come to visit him while I can't work (rain). Today I arrived at the hotel and found a pair of womens sunglasses under one of the bedside tables when I dropped my phone behind the bed. They aren't mine and im so worried he's cheating on me..

CindyCares agony aunt If you have no other reason at all to be suspicious, I would not sweat it over the sunglasses. It is quite possible they belong to some previous hotel guest.

I have forgotten a sweater in a hotel room in Leeds... a skirt in San Francisco... a pair of shoes in Miami... books , panties, lipsticks, combs, brushes , you name it ,all over the world... now you make me feel bad :) thinking that there MUST be some poor guy somewhere who got hell from his wife because of my absentmindedness.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (27 August 2013):

A few years back some coworkers and I attended a training class that we paid for out of pocket... we were all part time employees and barely making ends meet, so we shared rooms to save money. I was rooming with this guy "David" and when I went into the bathroom I was shocked to discover a very large pair of women's underwear on the floor... flower print and everything; although they were big enough to fit him there was no mistaking they were made for a woman. I came back out and said "David, I sure hope these aren't yours!"

Not surprisingly, my new roomie wasn't actually a closet cross-dresser. We still laugh about it. So don't jump to conclusions here. Trust me, if those panties could be overlooked, it's quite conceivable that a pair of sunglasses could fall off the dresser and be missed. If their owner didn't see them on her final check of the room while packing, cleaning probably wouldn't have seen them either.

So_Very_Confused agony aunta few weeks ago we went to our yearly gaming con and stayed in a hotel.

we got home and I was missing my wireless mouse.. I called the hotel.

they checked the room and did not find it.

the NEXT day they called me again... they looked again and then found it... I vote for lousy cleaning... and if they are cheap sunglasses the person who left them didn't care.

Why didn't you just ask him?

A reader, anonymous, writes (27 August 2013):

Almost certainly the last guest's sunglasses. I doubt the cleaning staff lies down on the floor after every visit to scrounge around under the tables...and I know what kind of typical hotel nightstand you're talking about. Those suckers are hard to look underneath!

Another possibility is that he bought the sunglasses for himself! I know guys who wear ladies' sunglasses and rock them. All depends on his style.

Why was "he's cheating" your first thought?

person12345 agony auntHas there been anything else he's done to make you think he's cheating? If not you should probably give him the benefit of the doubt that someone just left them there. I agree with doubcoll, try just asking him about them without saying where you got them and see what he does.

A male reader, dougbcoll United States +, writes (27 August 2013):

dougbcoll agony aunt if they were under the table maid service may have missed them also. if it took you having to get down to search for your phone, maid service may have well over looked the sun glasses as well.

the best advise i can give you is to get the sun glasses and not tell him were you picked them up from and ask him about them.just tell him you found them in the room. see what his reaction is, see if he acts like "a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar."

Ask him. If he doesn't know where they came from, take them to the front desk. It is possible he has an explanation, or that they were left there by the previous occupant.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (27 August 2013):

Wait a minute....

Just because there was a pair of women's sunglasses under one of the bedside tables, where does that mean he is cheating?

There are soooo many possibilities! It could belong to a previous guest. It could be from a work colleague who came by to drop off work. It could be from a cleaner who dropped them. Or worst case scenario, it could be from a girl he had over.

However, after 4 years you would know him best. Is he the type to cheat? What are his principles? Do you trust him? When you discuss those topics, what are his viewpoints? Have you ever had reason to believe he would cheat? Any red flags?

Your best bet would be to ask him! Show him the sunglasses and ask - whose are these? his reaction will say a lot. If he looks puzzled, it's because he has never seen them and has no clue how they got there. If he looks disinterested or surprised, it could be the same as above. If he gets defensive immediately or uncomfortable or red and tries to change the topic - then you may have reason to fear and will need to discuss and make sure your fears are founded or not.

Good Luck

Thetruthisugly agony auntYour quite right to question the sun glasses as they didn't walk in his hotel room on their own!! Did you confront him and what did he say??

A reader, anonymous, writes (27 August 2013):

He is staying at a hotel, so it is possible that someone else that stayed in the room before him left those under the bedside table whilst they were there. Although most hotel cleaning staff would likely find them, they don't always. At the last hotel room I stayed at I found a phone under the bed, it wasn't far under the bed, but the cleaning staff missed it. Unless you have any other reason to believe he is cheating on you, I suggest that you let this slide and figure out why you are feeling insecure. Good Luck
