It's your and your girlfriend's choice how fast your relationship goes, not everyone else's.

I remember that feeling. The pressure sucks when you're in middle school, doesn't it? Well, I assure you, after the first time it'll get a lot easier to hug. Don't worry about doing it in front of your friends... maybe next time it's just the two of you and you're saying goodbye, you could go for it.
You could always ask her, "can I hug you?" or "will you give me a hug goodbye?"... I like being asked. But there's nothing wrong with just going in for it. You might be nervous the first time, and it might be a little weird, but after that the ice will have been broken and you'll be alright.
Good luck, sweetness. I'll bet you're a great boyfriend.

Just build up to it. When you're saying goodbye start by putting a hand on her shoulder, next time put an arm round her shoulder. By the third time you should be ready for that hug. I'm not sure what makes you uncomfortable about hugging but it's really not a big deal. Not long ago you were hugging your mum goodnight. All that's changed is that this time the woman you're hugging is your age.
