A female Malaysia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

i'm living with my mum to finish off my last year of high school while my dad has been sent overseas for work. he comes to see us maybe once a month so its not too bad. the thing is, i feel like because of that i have less freedom than my other friends.

im not allowed out on weekdays, and i can only go out once the entire week. even then, i have to be back by 1 and im already 18. im not allowed to sleepover because my mum doesnt like being alone in the house.

i feel really bad because i feel like because of me, my mum feels like she has to stay with me all the time. and as often as i tell her that i dont mind her staying with my dad more often, she insists on staying with me most of the time.

i dont want to sound ungrateful or selfish or anything like that, but sometimes i feel its so unfair whenever im out with my friends and im the only one having to cut the night short, or not being able to stay for a party etc. what do i do?

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (23 August 2009):

There is always one person in a group that has to go home first.

It sucks but once you go to university or get a job and move out then you'll be a lot more free.

Your mum is just doing the best she can.

I was in exactly the same situation as you, and it's something you just have to put up with. It won't be long before you can move out and then you'll be fine.

Good Luck!! xx
