Howdy everyone :) I'm Courtney and I'm a girl. Well, I have always noticed this my whole life that random people just stare at me. It makes very uncomfortable and nervous. Whenever I go anywhere people will just stop and stare! Even when I'm with friends or with my family even! And this also happens to me when I'm drivin in the truck..

My friends say that I'm gorgeous and all that crap but I don't really think that. I'm half Asian (filipino) and half American. I'm also 14. Men, boys, kids, women, and girls all stare at me.. Please help me with this! Thanks (:

A male reader, anonymous, writes (13 March 2014):

'stares intently' I wouldn't pay much attention. If someone stares at you, they instinctually feel they either require your attention or they have something in common with you, whatever it may be. If your friends call you gorgeous, the stare-bears may just be taking in a brief moment of what seems like a ray of sunlight and beauty in their otherwise mundane or slow day.

dearcupid3490 agony auntIn social psychology, this is called the "spotlight effect" and it's common in the teenage years. We tend to forget about it when we get older.

If you're interested in reading up on it, here's an article from the LA Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2003/jan/13/health/he-spotlight13

That's normal for teenage girls, OP. I go anywhere with my younger sisters and it's just constant stares, some even honk their car horns and stuff.

Ignore it, it's not a sign of something wrong.

Even if you are sooo gorgeous, EVERYONE is just staring at you?

It's very hard to believed, honestly. Men stare at young, not very young, pretty, not very pretty women, it's uundedstandable, but everyone ?

Unless you have something weird with you appearance people will not stare in general. Sometimes people standout of the crowed when they are not dress accordingly, or women very provocatively, hardly have any clothes on, then yes, of course even women will stare at women, but otherwise, why?

Are you sure? Anyone else notice it but you?
