While I was glad to see that there was nothing wrong, ultimately I decided to get her another present and save the collectible for her birthday (which happens to be in 2 weeks).

reader, anonymous, writes (13 December 2009): I agree with Aunty BimBim, and if you're unsure, get er the collectible and then a backup gift in case the reaction isn't a good one. You can give her two gifts and just say what you told us, that you gave her the collectible because it made her so happy last year, but you were unsre if it was good taste so you brought a second gift (something less expensive like maybe chocolates or something)

Ya I absolutly agree. If she really loved your gift last Christmas then I dont see any problem in getting her another one of the collectibles (as long as they are different enough that she can still enjoy it). Hope this helps.

I think if your GF is still collecting whatever it is you gave her last year, a new piece for her collection will not be considered bad taste.
