We've been together a long time and Im very happy with my life in general, but I cannot get an ex out of my head. I had the opportunity to get back together with this guy before meeting my current partner but I didn't want to and don't regret my decision for a moment. I haven't even seen the guy for over 3 years yet every now and again there will be a commercial on the tv or a sign outside a shop window or some other silly little thing that will make me think of him. I really want to stop thinking about him, I dont want him and I don't regret not being with him so why do I think of him so often?

I wouldn't worry at all. I think you're probably panicking when something reminds you of him & that's made you think about him more & worry about what it could mean.
I would just accept that he was a big part of your life, that you'll probably always think of him on occasion & don't be hard on yourself when it does happen.. just let it go & don't worry bout it.
Hope this is helpful :)
