A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ive been having trouble in school with my ex and its making me feel really low. I broke up with him about 4 months ago as he kissed another girl after a month he wanted to be mates so i said yeah its fine as he was my first for everything, there was a little trouble as he kept changing his mind about being mates but then it settled down. Last week i was ill and off school and when we spoke on msn we were both kinda flirty, that saturday i went to the pub with everyone to watch the football and he started to get very nasty towards me, i was talking about my best mate whos male who my ex was a little jealous of, well this mate was in hospital so i was sayin im going to see him then the nastiness started i thought that when i go to school it'll b fine but since monday he has gone out of his way to either be nasty, try to humiliate me and isolate me. what should i do? i really dont know why his being this way i come home and cry coz its hurting

A male reader, Dazzerg United Kingdom +, writes (9 November 2007):

Dazzerg agony auntHe's being this way simply because his feelings are hurt and he's being particularly cruel in returning the favour. He maybe wanting to get back with you though, to be harsh, it can barely be said he deserves another chance. Im guessing that at the time you were together your relationship with this friend made him feel insecure and rather than communicate this to you he went off and did his own thing which is a mistake. I think you need to be strong and try and thrash this out with him in the first instance, tell him how this is making you feel and I would also confide in some of your friends to relieve the burden of feeling isolated.

I think you both lack closure on your relationship but you cant let this carry on because it will drive you down if you do, if all your efforts come to nothing then you may have to consider confiding in an authority figure because at the moment what he is doing is out and out bullying. However, I would see that route as very much the last resort. Good luck and take care :)
