Just get a load of random stuff together and see what happens. Always a load of fun :)

Pack a really nice lunch and grab a blanket - take him out for a picnic. It can be really cheaply done but it shows you put in a lot of thought and love.

Bake or cook for him. I'm a starving studnet myself, and have found that people really appreciate when I bake goodies for them. Tehy know my time and heart went into it, even if my wallet didn't.
Maybe make him a nice dinner, something inexpensive like chicken and potatos (scalloped?) and a fresh salad. Make it from scratch and no expensive restaraunt will ever be able to come close ;)
