I cant understand his mixed messages

i was seeing this guy last year and recently weve started hanging out because hes friends with my friends. i was talking to him once about being friends and he said "just friends it is then." he can be a sweetheart to me at times and at other times he can be completely rude. i ended up sleeping with him recently and were okay, but we never talk unless our friends get together. i saw him recently and he was going to stay back from the bar with me but he had to go, i texted him the next day and thought it was really random. im really confused because i cant tell what he wants or if he wants to even be friends. dont guys make it obvious?
