Hey...I've got a bad problem. I binge eat like crazy! It's really getting to me now as I'm really trying to lose weight for my prom but I can't help but eat anything in sight. I don't think I'm fat, I just seem to be putting a lot of weight onto my sides giving me love handles.

One incident that took place this morning was when I saw some mini bagels in the cupboard. I decided to have two, but then as time went on I gradually managed to scoff 8 of them! My mum asked me where they were and I had to lie to get out of it by saying that they were out of date. It's really getting to me now as my mum thinks I'm a liar! Help! xx

yeh i totally understand the constant feeling of wanting to eat is uncontrolable sometimes! the best way like wot others have said is to exercise and eat healthly.

Eat less more often can sometimes work or even snacking on fuit and veg and water helps.

katrinadeon agony aunthiya, here are a few tips that might help

if you think you are hungry and want a snack drink a pint of ice cold water and then wait 10-15 minuites. sometimes we think we are peckish but we are really just dehydrated.

if you still want a snack then try to eat fresh fruit and raw vegetables.make your own dip and have it with carrot, cucumber, celery, peppers that type of thing. always keep a little snack pack of dried fruit like raisins with you or tasty rice cakes.

drink water while you eat your meals as it will fill you up more. there is nothing wrong with the odd sugary snack but you may be eating out of boredom. next time you reach for a naughty nibble think do i really want this or shall i go for a run or read a magazineetc etc.keep active and eat healthily, but if you are really worried then you must go to see a doctor there may be an underlying medical problem like worms (not a nice thought im sorry for saying it but if you are constantly hungry its worth checking)perhaps have a word with your mum so she can stock up on healthy snacks?

hope this helps

A female reader, anonymous, writes (25 June 2007):

A hard problem it is many people eat and over eat food. Many people eat food and binge on it when depressed or stressed which is never a good thing but dont so much. I woud haave to say its a hard question for me to answer, as much as i wish to help, as i have dont have that problem. I usually will eat when I want but sometimes if i know im full and only want a little i will force myself to have a little. You have to become concious of it and force yourself to stop. It isnt easy by any means. You can also ask your doctor the next time how you can maybe stop binge eating they can probably help too. Dont forget small portions, eat slowly, and excersie. Good Luck
