A female reader, cd206 United Kingdom +, writes (7 March 2007):

cd206 agony auntI think you're just honest. At first get back in touch with her via email which will give you a chance to explain everything without interruptions and confusion. I would go along the lines of teling her all your news first of all and then saying something at the end about how much you regret cutting yourself out of her life but at the time it was the only thing you could do to stop hurting but tha now you're over your feelings you'd be grateful if she'd give you another chance to be her friend.

However be very very careful that you don't still want to be with her because in that case you're just setting yourself up for lots more hurt.
