reader, anonymous, writes (22 January 2006): If I were the business owner, my first thought would be to how this is going to affect the workplace. Whether your boss is into you or not, her position as supervisor over you and your co-workers precludes her from reciprocating your interest (at least if she takes her job seriously). At this point, I doubt she'll act on it other than to maybe remind you privately that she can't date her subordinates. It would be best to leave this be and keep it to yourself until you are working elsewhere, in which case you can ask her again and expect a response unburdened by her position. Right now, she probably feels like she's in a very awkward spot.

reader, anonymous, writes (16 January 2006): I don't think what other people would think in a hypothetical situation will assist you with this one. We don't know you or know her sexual preference or her relationship status.
I think that her reaction will tell you a lot and really she should tell you how she is feeling. A professional boss should deal with this straight away and you should not be in any doubt to her reaction.
I don't think you should be worrying about how to make it better for her, I think this needs to be discussed between the two of you and worked out - not tried to be second guessed.

 To be completetly honest I would feel a bit weird espically if i do not share tha same feelings towards you. Dont feel too bad though because if she does have feelings for you then maybe your statement might invoke her inner feelings
