Greetings everyone, I am a 17 year old male who suffers from paranoia. This has happened for a long period of time (1 - 2 years) and has started to wreck my social life. I have started to like a girl but I am paranoid people are speaking about me behind my back. I am a very open person and I tend to share my emotions a lot with my friends; although this does not answer why I think people talk so badly about me. I think people talk bad about me because I like a younger girl and they may see it as wrong. My friend was in the same age gap but the other way around. People tend to think that if a guy goes with a younger girl its wrong but if a girl goes with a younger guy then its okay. Anyway I am paranoid about people who talk about me behind my back and I shudder at people who mock me and tell me I cannot get the girl I want. Is there anyway to reduce my paranoia, or better yet eliminate it?

the best answer to paranoia ( and i've tried this on myself) is to firstly say "you're SAYING its paranoia. you KNOW it's paranoia. so it puts you a hell of a way infront of most people, who are so paranoid they cant tell which is which..."

secondly, the best thing i can say to get rid of paranoia and to get real, is to say if i believed X, and i was in a court of law, trying to make a jury believe X too- what actual evidence do i have? have i seen this? do i have proof of this? how could somebody discredit this? " usually you'll find you do not have any proper evidence which backs up what you believe is happening. and somebody could easily discredit you, by telling you that you have no concrete evidence to suggest this is the case.

if you have a good friend, you can ask them to be a paranoia buddy, to play the part of the jury, and to say "do YOU think i'm justified in thinking this?" 99% of the time, the answer is no...
