I agree with both of the answers you've got so far.
A few of my teachers thought I was being cheeky until they realised I just have a really dry sense of humour.
You don't need them to be your friends, you need to show them that you respect them and want to learn from them.
Keep quiet and do the work and you'll be fine.
Good Luck!! xx

Teachers are not your friends, they are people working at a job. When they go home they forget about school, because they got friends of their own, and a life outside their job...
Teachers like students who learn, and pass exams... Being witty is nice, but not if it interfers with the lesson and teaching. School is not about jokes, being witty or having fun. For teachers it's about getting students to learn, and keeping their jobs by getting students to pass exams. Work hard and pass exams and then teachers will like you just fine.

Being witty means your smart teachers tend to like that. Its being lippy they don't like =PI wasn't planning on saying that but you have put ideas into my head. I'm assuming you don't want to be friends with them as such but you just don't want them to hate you. If you actually want them to be friends with you, its unlikely thats going to happen. It may seem harsh but you will understand this when you are older...In the mean time, if you work hard and pay attention - answer to questions but keep in close link with your friends - then thats on the road to impress them. Eventually you can start having other conversations. To be honest I never really studied hard as such but as you get older through the school your classes get smaller and they spend more time with each student individually.
